Diversity Sligo, with the help of ETB Sligo will start a pilot project soon, training interested ‘listeners’ to staff some benches to offer emotional support for migrants.
Many people who have come to Ireland experience emotional distress, feel disconnected or helpless in the unknown environment and grieve what they have lost. They have fled from trauma of war, political persecution, sexual violence and/or modern slavery. They have lost their entire culture and their homes with all social and economic connections,
They often feel a need to be listened to first of all, knowing there is usually no fast solution to the problem.
If you are interested in volunteering you can apply to email@example.com or call 0862325951. Expected commitment would be 1.5 hours per week.
