We are looking to increase our volunteer gardening enthusiasts in the poly tunnel and outdoor growing area at Globe House.
As a volunteer you will require very basic gardening knowledge, and have a reasonable level of fitness to bend over the growing beds and to do a little bit of digging.
Part of the role will involve sharing mutual stories on gardening from around the globe along with befriending and encouraging the residents of Globe House to get involved. Volunteers will be invited to share basic gardening skills and will include passing on knowledge about the planting, growing and looking after & harvesting vegetables & plants in an Irish climate.
Volunteers will be asked to give an ongoing commitment of 2 hours per week and will be expected to work in a flexible manner that will be determined by the seasonal nature of the gardening calendar along with the ongoing upkeep and maintenance of a poly tunnel.
Volunteers will enjoy meeting people from other countries. This role is a social and fun activity. Volunteers will also get to broaden their knowledge of gardening. On completion of six months commitment volunteers will be offered a reference.
We ask volunteers to make a minimum time commitment of 6 months.
What’s required for this position?
Basic knowledge of gardening. Ability to communicate with people whose first language is not English. Capacity to encourage residents from Globe House to take part in the gardening activities. Reasonable level of fitness. Personable Skills. Fluent English.
As asylum seekers are considered vulnerable adults volunteers will be required to undergo a garda vetting. The process is quite simple and replies are expected in two weeks.
Volunteers will be supported and mentored by the current team of friendly and experienced volunteers. There will be initial induction and training and ongoing training opportunities.
